A wall mural familiar to many in York is going to disappear as part of a pub makeover.
The Black Horse on Monkgate is going to get new signs and a paint job.
A planning application submitted by owners the Stonegate Group would see a new pub sign hung from the front wall.

An aluminium cut out logo would be attached to the front too. And a new amenity board would be added, advertising ‘Real ales, quality food, beer garden’.
One wall of the Black Horse carries a mural. It depicts the York city scape complete with Clifford’s Tower and the Minster, alongside the word Pravha.
The planning documents state: “Signage company to remove the existing unauthorised mural painted on gable wall and repaint the gable.”
The Black Horse was built in 1897 for John Hunt’s Brewery in York.
It was changed to The Tap & Spile in 1988 after a £100K refurbishment, before being changed back.
Planning documents say: “The signage has been designed using traditional materials and processes.
“The use of colours and letter styles has been chosen to be traditional but not overpowering against the buildings aesthetics.
“Every care has been taken to ensure that this design will compliment the building and be in keeping with the surrounding area.”
