Police investigating a report of sexual assault in York have arrested a man.

Detectives arrested the 60-year-old man from the Bradford area after the incident on Harrington Avenue, off Melrosegate, between 1.35am and 2am on Friday, June 23.

The victim is a woman aged in her 40s from York.

A police spokesman said: “She is receiving specialist support while the investigation continues.”

The man has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Licence withdrawn

He is an Uber driver with a licence registered in Bradford. The alleged assault did not happen in any vehicle.

When the incident was reported to City of York Council, officers contacted the licensing department at Bradford Council.
