They’re calling it a match made in big brand heaven.
Two famous high street names are closing their individual York stores and moving in together at Monks Cross.
TK Maxx and Homesense are combining under the roof of one of the reconfigured units at the York shopping centre.
It will mean fashion, interiors and gift shop TK Maxx closing its shop near Sainsbury’s in a different section of the shopping park.
Furnishings and houseware specialists Homesense, meanwhile, is set to close its branch at Foss Islands Retail Park.
Moving in March
The two are both set to close their existing stores on 18 March and reopen together at Monks Cross the following day.
Both TK Maxx and Homesense are owned by the same company.
A spokeswoman said: “We know shoppers will be excited at the prospect of a store in York but we don’t want to make any promises to our customers before the plans are finalised.
“We therefore can’t give any more information at this stage.”
Staff from both existing stores are expecting to be transferred to the new combined shop.
It is the latest in a series of changes at Monks Cross.
The centre has been undergoing a major facelift for months, with new standalone food and drink units – one housing a Greggs – and new exteriors for the exising stores.
Although it lost a number of big names in 2018, including Top Shop, Wallis and Burton, other stores have moved in, with Card Factory announced at the end of last summer.
