Two high-flying schools are neck-and-neck in the latest edition of the Sunday Times Parent Power Guide.
Acknowledged as an authoritative survey of the country’s top schools, the guide has just published its set of league tables for 2023.
The UK’s highest-achieving secondary schools are ranked by the first true set of post-pandemic examination results in the 31st edition of the guide.
It contains a list of more than 1,000 schools – and York schools come out well.
In the list of the best comprehensive schools in the north, Archbishop Holgate’s School comes second while Fulford School comes a close third.

They are positioned 188th and 189th in the full list of all schools, state and fee-paying, in the table.
Next up is All Saints RC School (258th), Huntington School (333rd), and Outwood Academy, Easingwold (373rd).
When it comes to fee-paying schools, Queen Ethelburga’s College tops the list for the best in the north. It is 17th in the overall list.
St Peter’s School is fifth in the north (114th overall), and the Mount is sixth (183rd).
Secondary School of the Year for Academic Performance in the North is Ripon Grammar. Independent School of the Year for Academic Performance in the North is Queen Ethelburga’s College.
