When the sun’s out, there’s nothing better than enjoying a meal or a cocktail with family and friends while catching some rays.
OpenTable have revealed their list of the top 100 UK places for al fresco dining, which includes seven Yorkshire restaurants – with two in York, and one just ten miles from the city.
The annual list is based on more than 2.2 million OpenTable diner reviews and metrics.
First on the list is the York Minster Refectory, located on Deangate in what was the York Minster School. It only opened last year.
However it already has over 400 reviews on OpenTable, with a 4.5 for food and 4.6 for service.
The brasserie style restaurant is run day-to-day by Joshua Brimmell – who is also the executive head chef of The Star Inn The City, which also made the list.
The Star, in the old Lendal Engine House on the edge of York’s Museum Gardens, is a place where visitors can enjoy an al-fresco beverage or bite to eat while overlooking the River Ouse.
With more than 6,000 reviews on OpenTable, it has a rating of 4.4 for food and 4.5 for service.
Also on the list is The Drovers Arms. It has featured as a YorkMix Restaurant of the Week – located just ten miles south of York, the homemade dishes reflect the changing seasons, and are inspired by the walks to be found through Skipwith Common.
The Drovers Arms recently reopened after a £150,000 refurbishment.
Four other Yorkshire restaurants have made the list. They are:
- The Crathorne Arms, Yarm
- Devour, Holmfirth
- The Fish Cottage, Whitby
- Shibden Mill Inn, Halifax
All seven of the Yorkshire restaurants featured are also pooch-friendly – so you can bring along your furry friend too.
The list ‘aims to make eating out with your dog a breeze’, as, according to OpenTable’s findings, 60% of British dog owners admitted that they have been prevented from dining out with their dog in the past due to difficulty finding a pet-friendly venue.
