Two stars of York Theatre Royal’s production of Jack and the Beanstalk have been nominated in the 2024 UK Pantomime Awards.
Mia Overfield, who played heroic Jack in her pantomime debut, a year after leaving drama school, has been nominated in the Best Early Career Newcomer category.
Anna Soden, who played Dave the Cow, is nominated in the Best Supporting Artist category.
Anna grew up in York and was a member of York Youth Theatre for a decade. She was also part of the young people’s ensemble for York Theatre Royal shows such as The Railway Children and the 2006 Cinderella pantomime.
The 2023-24 production also starred CBBC’s James Mackenzie and Eastenders and Goodness Gracious Me star Nina Wadia.
Jack and the Beanstalk was the third pantomime produced by York Theatre Royal and pantomime producer Evolution, with the theatre’s creative director Juliet Forster as director and Evolution’s Paul Hendy as writer.
The same team is behind the 2024-25 York Theatre Royal pantomime Aladdin (3 December to 5 January). Robin Simpson returns as the Dame, with CBeebies and CBBC presenter Evie Pickerill starring as the Spirit of the Ring.
Tickets for Aladdin are already on sale, and are available here.
The UK Pantomime Awards ceremony, in association with Stagecoach, will take place at G Live in Guildford on Tuesday 18 June – good luck Mia and Anna!
