Two of York’s brass bands are coming together for a special Christmas concert – filled with festive joy.
The York RI Band and its sister band, York RI Golden Rail Band, will join forces for a special celebration concert that will see both bands performing a selection of festive favourites as well as other suitably seasonal offerings.
A Christmas Celebration will be performed at St Chad’s Church on Campleshon Road on Saturday 16 December.

Concert goers can expect perennially popular carols and songs like ‘White Christmas’ and ‘Feliz Navidad’, to an ethereal arrangement of choral music, Prokofiev’s Midnight Sleighride, and ‘Walking in the Air’ from The Snowman.
The programme has something for everyone, including a few surprises too!
Nicholas Eastwood, conductor of the Golden Rail Band, said: “Christmas is synonymous with brass bands – you see us out carolling in all weathers in December!
“In a season so profoundly ‘brass bandy’, it seems only right that some of York’s finest brass musicians come together to perform an indoor concert of spectacular music; some of which you will know, some that will enlighten.”
The bands have a strong association with the city of York: North of England Champions York RI Band, who are conducted by musical director Dr David Lancaster, can trace their heritage back to 1883, while the Golden Rail Band marks its 40th anniversary next year.
This is guaranteed to get you firmly into the Christmas spirit.
