Two-way walking is set to return to the city walls in York

A decision has been made by the council as part of a risk managed approach reflecting the Government’s guidance once Step 4 of the Roadmap is introduced.

Boris Johnson has said that covid laws and rules will change from 19th July as planned.

Visitors to the walls have had to stick to a one-way system during the recent phase of the pandemic restrictions.

The city walls were initially closed in response to COVID when the rules were essential travel only and the requirement for full social distancing was in place.

The decision to make the walls one way was made following the end of the first national lockdown.

The government guidance is that social distancing should be targeted, time limited and apply to settings characterised by enclosed and vulnerable communities.
