A young man has been stabbed and two teenagers arrested after an outbreak of violence in York last night (Friday).
Police were called to Haxby at about 6.30pm after reports that an 18-year-old man had suffered a wound to his abdomen, believed to have been caused by a knife.
An ambulance was called and he was treated at the scene. He was not taken to hospital.
A member of the public who tried to help had their hand cut by the knife.
Witnesses say the incident happened in the South Lane area of Haxby.
The suspect, a 16-year-old boy from York, was traced and arrested a short time later on suspicion of wounding with intent. He remains in police custody.
Police activity on the Bell Farm estate in York is thought to be connected with the arrest of the boy.
Officers have also arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of assault. He has been released from police custody and issued with a “restorative diversion scheme”.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We are aware that the incident has caused concern among the local community and we will be carrying out extra patrols in the Haxby area in the coming days and nights.
