The changing face of shopping in York continues apace.
A retail park store and a city centre shop are both to shut.
Gift retailer Yankee Candle on Coppergate has launched a closing down sale.
It opened in July 2017 in the unit vacated by hair salon shop Trade Secret.
And national stationery brand Office Outlet on Foss Islands Road is closing too.
A mixed picture
The Coppergate Centre is a retailing success story, bucking the downward trend and becoming fully occupied from last September.
Its family-friendly atmosphere – there are no bars to attract the stag and hen parties – and clever attractions like deckchairs on the green have attracted shops and shoppers.
The owners of Yankee Candle declined to comment on the closure.
But YorkMix understands that the shop is unlikely to be empty for long.
Office Outlet is shutting 17 of its stores nationwide after going into administration.
Formerly known as Staples, it was taken on by restructuring firm Hilco, the same company which owned HMV prior to its collapse.
The York store has launched a major closing down sale.
Foss Islands has had a mixed retailing picture – Carpetright on Foss Islands Road closed in 2018 – but discount retailer B&M opened in the retail park that same summer.
