Police believe two people are responsible for a spate of early hours break-ins in York city centre.
There’s been a number of burglaries to businesses, especially small individual barber shops, in the last week.
“The suspects are targeting these businesses during the early hours, in the more secluded areas of York which don’t have great CCTV coverage, ” says PCSO Grenville Dowson.
“Two persons have been seen on the footage available at each burglary which shows them breaking through windows or weak doors to enter the premises, taking the money in the cash register and on some occasions taking the actual cash register with them.”
He urged businesses to do everything they can to make their businesses less attractive to criminals.
“CCTV is a useful tool to help catch the criminals involved if they can be identified, but this does not stop them committing the offence.
“Please target harden your businesses and properties by removing all cash in the building at the end of each day and either banking it or securing it away from the premises.
“Make sure doors and windows are all locked securely and check your CCTV to make sure it is working correctly.”
PCSO Dowson asked anyone with information that could help their enquiries to call police on 101 or email via [email protected].
