Two people were taken to hospital after a fire in their house in York.

Just before 6pm on Saturday (October 17) fire crews from York, Acomb and Huntington were called out to reports of a roof fire in Marygate Lane.

The fire was in the airing cupboard on the first floor of the house.

Two people inside, a man and woman aged about 50, were treated for smoke inhalation. The man also had slight burns to his hands.

Both were taken to York Hospital by ambulance for treatment.

The fire crews put out the blaze. It left fire damage to the airing cupboard and smoke damage to the rest of the property.

The cause is not yet known. A fire investigation officer returned to the Marygate Lane house on Sunday to continue inquiries.
