Two more huge announcements were revealed today on YorkMix Radio for the Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta.
One of the biggest and best events in the York calendar, the family-friendly fiesta returns to the Knavesmire from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 September 2022. It will combine epic balloons and family entertainment – and of course, live music.
So far, the line-up over the fiesta includes Scouting for Girls, Craig Charles, Howard Donald, Ibiza Symphonic, with more acts still to be announced.
Today (Thursday) fiesta organiser John Lowery exclusively revealed on YorkMix Radio to breakfast presenters Ben Fry and Laura Castle two out of three headline acts for the Saturday.
1. Boyzlife
Kicking off the announcements for Saturday was supergroup Boyzlife – comprised of former boyband members Keith Duffy and Brian McFadden from Boyzone and Westlife.
Known for pop hits such as The One, Burn For You and new single A Little Saving, Boyzlife will be singing up a storm on the main stage.
“I’m the world’s biggest Westlife fan,” said Laura.
John joked that they would have to put them in a balloon “to get away from you.”
2. Heather Small
Next to be announced was the iconic Heather Small.
The soul singer and former lead singer of the band M People is perhaps best known for her feel-good single Proud and has been topping the charts since the 90s.
This will be the second time Heather Small visits York this year, as she’s also visiting York Barbican on 2 April.

A third headline act for Saturday will be announced on YorkMix Radio next week – so make sure to tune in.
Roy Stride, lead singer of Scouting for Girls who will be headlining on Friday night, also spoke with Ben and Laura on YorkMix Radio and gave a teaser for what might be in store including new music – and maybe even a performance from a hot air balloon.
“I’m going to promise you right now – weather permitting – a balloon flight,” said Ben. “In fact, I was going to suggest that – presuming that you’re going to do She’s So Lovely – that you did it whilst 300 feet above the Knavesmire.”
“That would be the best thing ever,” said Roy, who is a huge aviation fan. “Let’s make it happen.”
Tickets for the Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta are already on sale, starting from £8 in advance for one day and £25 for a family ticket. Get your tickets here.
