Two York men accused of carrying offensive weapons following a police crackdown on civil unrest have denied the charges.
Adam Boukhaf, 22, and Mohammed Wako, also 22, were arrested in Fawcett Street, York, on 7 August.
They were each charged with possessing an offensive weapon, but both pleaded not guilty to the allegation when they appeared at York Crown Court today.
Mr Boukhaf, of Eboracum Way, is alleged to have carried a pair of armoured motorcycle gloves and the prosecution claims that Mr Wako, of Walmgate, was carrying a barbell.
Judge Sean Morris, the Recorder of York, adjourned the case for a trial on November 21. The two defendants were remanded in custody.
A third man, 19-year-old Edward Savvas, of Murray Street, York, admitted possessing an offensive weapon in connection with the same incident at a previous hearing. He will be sentenced after the trial of his two co-defendants.
The three men will next appear for an intermediary hearing on 6 September.
