Two men and a teenage child have been arrested following vehicles being set on fire in Northallerton.
As we reported earlier, firefighters were called to a blaze in which a Citroën van and a Peugeot 508 were all but totally destroyed early this morning (Monday).
The fire, which also destroyed a lean-to and damaged the wall of a house, was started deliberately, North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said.
This evening, North Yorkshire Police issued a statement to say that the arrests were made “following a vehicle fire on Linden Road in Northallerton.
“The fire was reported to the police at 1.18am on Monday.
“A 15-year-old boy and a 29-year-old man have been on suspicion of arson.
“A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson and possession of a what is suspected to be a class B drug.
“They currently remain in police custody.”
Detective Inspector Jill Cowling said: “This incident could have had very serious consequences. Thankfully on this occasion nobody was seriously injured.
“As part of the ongoing police investigation I’m now appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to come forward.
“Local residents should expect to see increased patrols in the local area as a way of reassurance and to the local community.
“I would urge anyone who has any concerns to speak to a local officer”.
