Police are warning motorists to be careful on rural roads afterv two deer died following a collision near Malton
An Officer was on the B1257 at Newgate Bank this morning and came across two deer within 30m of each other.
One had been killed outright and it was moved to the verge. The other was seriously injured but still alive.
Firearms Officers came to help and due to the level of injuries, a temporary road closure was put in place while the deer was put to sleep.
Although there is no legal requirement to inform the Police after being involved in a collision with a deer, Police always recommend you call it in on 101 (999 if it poses a risk to life) so officers can take the appropriate action.
Either have a vet attend to help the animal recover or so it can be humanely put to sleep, then they can clear the carriageway.
Impacts with deer can also be fatal for drivers too. So slow down and take care especially at dawn and dusk.
