Two cats have died after being shot in York.

Police are investigating the incidents which happened within days of one another.

In the first incident a cat was hit by pellets from an air weapon near St Wilfrids Close, Strensall, overnight between Thursday and Friday (November 16-17).

Sadly, the cat had to be put down due to the injuries it suffered.

A second cat was hit by pellets near Ashwood Glade in Haxby between 2.30pm and 4.30pm on Saturday (November 18).

Again its injuries were so serious it had to be put down.

Very distressing

PC Ruth Atkins, of the York Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “These are clearly very distressing incidents and our thoughts are with the owners of the cats.

“Enquiries have been carried out in both neighbourhood and people with information are urged to come forward to the police as soon as possible.”

The owner of the cat who died in Haxby said: “Hoping we can get the nasty people who did this to poor Lexi.”

She believes the shooting happened somewhere around Ashwood Glade, Greystone Court, Foxcroft and Eastfield.

She said agreeing to put Lexi to sleep was “the hardest decision to make”.

Bev Dixon, founder of the Missing Cats In York Facebook group, told YorkMix: “It’s devastating all the cats that are being killed in York. I really hope the police find who did this.”
