Two air ambulances were called to a football match in York today (Sunday) after a player was seriously injured.
It happened during the Wigginton Grasshoppers Veterans vs Huntington Rovers Veterans match.
Two players accidentally clashed heads early in the match, which kicked off at 10.30am on Wigginton Playing Fields, off Mill Lane.
Unfortunately the Huntington Rovers player was badly injured and wasn’t responding, so the Yorkshire Air Ambulance was called, alongside a road ambulance.
In the event two air ambulances landed at the neighbouring squash club.
The Huntington player then became more responsive and was taken to hospital by road ambulance, YorkMix understands.
The Wigginton player was not so seriously hurt and did not require hospital attention, we are told.
Unconfirmed reports say the Huntington player has suffered a fractured skull and is being treated in hospital.
The match was abandoned after the incident. The game will now be played later in the season, on a date to be fixed.
