The king and queen of daytime TV, Richard and Judy, will be on the sofa in York next month.

Husband and wife team Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan will be talking about their work and their love of books at an event in York Explore Library.

At the event, organised by Waterstones in York, Richard will be interviewed by Judy and talking about his third novel, The Night Book.

More details

This is described as “a dark, suspenseful story set in the Lake District in the heatwave summer of 1976”.

After the talk, there will be a book-signing, giving viewers and book lovers the chance to meet and chat with Richard and Judy.

Famous faces

The couple first became household names presenting ITV show This Morning for 13 years from 1988. They went on to present Channel 4 chat show Richard & Judy between 2001 and 2009.

Their programmes broke new ground, hosting the first live breast, testicular and prostate examinations on daytime TV – on different shows needless to say.

The show also broadcast the first gay partnership celebration live on air on Valentine’s Day 2001 between Manchester couple Neil Morris and Mark Jinks.

Richard famously impersonated Ali G, which made the Telegraph‘s top ten most embarrassing TV moments.

Judy, meanwhile, famously endured a wardrobe malfunction live on the 2001 National Television Awards, when her top fell open.

One spin-off of Richard & Judy was the Richard & Judy Book Club, which has helped to create many bestsellers.

Richard regular appears as a DJ on BBC Radio 2, usually as holiday cover for the regular presenters, while Judy was a regular panelist on ITV’s Loose Women.

She has written two novels, and the pair, who married in 1986, co-wrote their autobiography.
