A brand new choir is coming to York, as seen on ITV’s Royal Variety Performance – and here’s how you can get involved.
The Some Voices choir first started out in 2010 with just seven choir members, and has since grown to to almost 1,000 members singing in cities across the country – and now it’s York’s turn.
This new choir will encourage the people of York to get together in a relaxed environment to sing, socialise and work together to create performances.
Some Voices also strives to be inclusive – it is open to everyone, with no auditions or previous experience required. All you need is a love for singing.
As well as end-of-term performances, participants will also have the chance to get involved with national performances too.
Past performances have included singing with Keala Settle at the 2021 Royal Variety Performance at the Royal Albert Hall and recording the soundtrack for BBC One’s 2019 Christmas advert.
“I am so excited to be bringing Some Voices’ musical magic to the beautiful city of York,” said Hannah Blackett, leader of the York Some Voices choir.
“We will be shaking away those blues, learning some amazing songs and really starting to feel the wellbeing benefits of singing.”
Rehearsals will be held at Southlands Methodist Church on Bishopthorpe Road, with numbers limited to allow for social distancing.
Free taster sessions are available – so anyone can come and try it out!
Some Voices spring term rehearsals start on Tuesday 25 January at 7pm. Each term is 10 weeks and costs £100.
