York City fans will pay a mass tribute to one of their own this Saturday.
Well-known supporter Connor Abbott has died at the age of 23.
And the club are urging everyone in the stadium to take part in a round of applause for him in the 23rd minute of City’s home game against Eastleigh.
YCFC supporters group SC Block Reds, who are based in the South Stand of the LNER Community Stadium on match days, organised the tribute.
They said on social media: “SC Block are sad to hear that a fellow South Stander Connor Abbott passed away aged 23.
“Followed YCFC for some years, from teenage years at Bootham Crescent to the LNER. Home and away, we’ve had many laughs over the years.
“We would really appreciate a full stadium applause for him on the 23RD MINUTE on Saturday’s game against Eastleigh.
“Please share everybody and finally from us, condolences to his family and close friends. Rest in peace Connor.”
Co-owner of the club Matt Uggla paid his own tribute.
“Rest in peace Connor,” he wrote on X. “Absolutely awful news to lose a member of the York family especially so young.
“My thoughts are with his family and friends. Please everyone who is coming along on Saturday give Connor the send off he deserves and take part in the 23rd minute.”
