Get ready to be transported through four iconic eras with music, fashion and fun – in this new event from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR).
The heritage railway will be taking families and enthusiasts alike on a journey through the 1940s, 50s, 60s, and 70s.
Through the Decades will take place on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 October 2023.
The weekend will be full of nostalgia and timeless entertainment, as the NYMR take you to four stations and four decades where the music, fashion and spirit of each era will come alive.
The event will kick off at Pickering Station and the 1940s – a decade when the four major rail operators were amalgamated into British Railways, the formation of the NHS and the 1948 London Olympics were in the headlines.
There will be trade stands and period displays and 1940s music from Ricky Hunter and Kitty Lamar. From there you will journey to Levisham Station and the 1950s, where there’ll be an agricultural engine display and vintage tractors.
At Goathland Station there will be display of 60s classic vehicles, children’s activities, live music, family station trail, and more. Then finish at Grosmont Station and dance through disco era of the 1970s with live music on both Saturday and Sunday.

There will also be a Through the Decades Welcome Party on Friday 13 October at The Sidings Inn – which will be an evening of music and dancing, and the Yorkshire Bus Bar will be serving a wide range of drinks. The welcome party event is free entry for NYMR travel ticket holders or £5 per adult on the door.
Visitors can enjoy the Through the Decades event with an Unlimited Annual Pass Ticket for £45. This ticket scheme means you pay for one day and then benefit from free travel for 12 months from the date of your first visit. And kids go free in 2023!
