As strike action led to a huge reduction in the number of LNER. CrossCounty and TPE train services, there was further disruption on Thursday and Friday.
The line has now been cleared and trains have been able to use it again.
Earlier we reported:
The train operator’s MD, David Horne, reported “Due to this Heavy Goods Vehicle coming onto the railway 9 miles east of Edinburgh, we will not be running any train services between Edinburgh and Newcastle for the rest of today (Thursday).
“My apologies if you are affected by this disruption.”
Later LNEr said the problems would continue during Friday and suggested that passengers did not try and travel between York and Scotland via Newcastle.
All other LNER trains are ok, subject to any last minute changes, including North Yorkshire to London

Network Rail said: “Here’s a photo of the scene at Wallyford. We’re working with the emergency services to find the best way to recover the HGV.
“Once that’s done, we’ll then need to check for damage to the track and overhead line kit.”
