Train companies are urging people not to travel on Friday as a major storm brings havoc to services.
Tonight, LNER issued this statement: “There will be no trains operating north of Newcastle in either direction from 11am on Friday 24 January.
“Services north of York will also be subject to short-notice cancellation and significant delay.
“Alternative travel options will be limited due to the nature of the weather.
“We are advising customers not to travel to and from stations north of York on Friday.”

Meanwhile, TransPennine Express is urging customers not to travel on services between York, Newcastle and Edinburgh, on Friday.
It is also asking passengers to avoid the routes from Manchester/Liverpool to Glasgow/Edinburgh via Preston.
Customers with tickets across the affected routes can either defer their journey or use tickets for travel between Thursday 23 January to Monday 27 January inclusive. Alternatively, they can request a full refund.

Forecasters have warned of a risk to life on Friday as Storm Éowyn batters the UK.
There’s a yellow warning for wind in place for York, and an amber warning for much of North Yorkshire.
Gusts of 60mph are expected inland, higher at the coast.
