Traffic ‘gridlocked’ as police incident closes main North Yorkshire road
A police incident has closed a key North Yorkshire road – and traffic is said to be gridlocked.
The A170 York Road at Thirsk was shut at about 9am.
It is closed both ways from A61 Long Street to A168 Blakey Lane.
There is queueing traffic in either direction, according to the AA.
One person tweeted about the problems this is causing:
@NYorksPolice .@northyorkscc .@BBCYork Why is there no news or information on the Road Closure in Thirsk? Traffic is gridlocked and major entry road to Thirsk is closed. I understand the need to close it, but there is no information for people..
