York’s alt rock songsmiths Bull are heading back on the road with a full UK tour starting in September 2021, and are making not one but two stops in their home city.
The band will be performing at The Crescent on 24 September 2021, and again on 23 October 2021 as part of ‘A Slow Education’, a two day music celebration also at The Crescent.

Formed in 2011 by vocalist and songwriter Tom Beer and guitarist Dan Lucas, Bull’s aim is to make the music they wanted to listen to. They are inspired by their Nineties heroes such as Pavement, Yo La Tengo and the Pixies.
The band is completed with drummer Tom Gabbatiss and bassist Kai West.
They announced their debut album ‘Discover Effortless Living’ which will be released on the 26th March by EMI Records, in conjunction with Young Thugs. It’s described as a ‘cornucopia of alt rock sounds’, and includes previous singles such as ‘Disco Living’, ‘Green’, ‘Bonzo Please’ and ‘Love Goo’.
“It’s songs written and rocked on between the years 2012 and 2020,” said Tom.
“The title is taken from the opening lyric to the final track ‘Disco Living’. We wanted to use a lyric from the album and felt like this was a good one.
“I first saw the words in London written on the side of a mansion being built and thought it was funny, it also ties in with ideas around class, new beginnings, a golden era of prosperity, and hoping to have life ‘in the bag’.”
To celebrate the announcement of their debut album, Bull released their latest single ‘Eugene’.
The band are already being championed by fellow musicians Elton John and Declan McKenna.
They’ve played support shows for the likes of Squid, The Orielles, Pip Blom and Spiral Stairs, and their constant gigging has seen them build up a dedicated local following. They have also played a series of shows in Germany and the Netherlands.
