It is the big list of the best. The National Restaurant Awards Top 100 is the creme de la creme of cuisine.
This week the 2024 list was unveiled at a glitzy ceremony in London.
And North Yorkshire has three representatives.
So how is the list compiled? A spokesperson said: “The National Restaurant Awards has an elite and authoritative judging academy, using a panel of more than 200 experts drawn from across the industry including food writers, chefs and restaurateurs.
“The UK is split into 11 regions, with members of the academy voting for the top seven restaurants that they have dined at in the last 12 months, weighted in order of preference. The results are compiled, and the top 100 list of the best restaurants is created.”
Without further ado, here are the local representatives.
#17 – Myse, Hovingham
This has been an amazing year for Josh and Vicky Overington and the team at Myse.
In February, the chef was awarded a Michelin star for the restaurant he only opened in Hovingham one year ago.
Now Myse has flown straight into number 17 in the top 100. Josh is no stranger to the list – his previous restaurant, Le Cochon Aveugle, was number 41 in the list a few years back.
The National Restaurant Awards say: “With a dining room staffed by young, enthusiastic and largely local staff, Mýse dazzles, delivering an experience that is unapologetically geared toward special occasions with an impressive lightness of touch.”
#37 The Angel at Hetton
Dining in the Dales was never more delightful, thanks to the incredible work of Michael Wignall at The Angel.
A double-winning Gastropub of the Year, The Angel At Hetton has been run by Michael and wife Johanna since 2018.
The National Restaurant Awards say: “At The Angel Wignall is serving up more than mere pub grub, either through his à la carte menu or multi-course tasting menus that are available at both lunch and dinner. Expect a trio of snacks as well as freshly made sourdough and a selection of cultured butters before tucking into some of the most inventive cooking and immaculate plating in the country at the moment.”
“Fantastic to be placed number 37 in the Top 100,” the Angel said on Insta. “Thank you to our awesome team and all that voted for us.”
#41 The Black Swan at Oldstead
Another of our legendary chefs makes it to the list – Tommy Banks, the man behind Roots York and the Abbey Inn, Byland.
But it is his original masterpiece, The Black Swan, that hits the Top 100.
The National Restaurant Awards say: “The restaurant opts for a tasting menu-only approach, which it says allows it to bring together everything grown and developed into a purposefully designed experience.”
