Thor’s Tipi will return to York this Christmas – at a brand new location.
The cosy pop up bar will be open in Museum Gardens from Wednesday 15 November to Sunday 31 December.
It will include two giant tents, roaring log fires, live music with local bands, a varied drinks menu and food by Yuzu Street Food and Ciao.
Director of Fabler & Co Amanda Monaghan, which runs Thor’s tipis, said: “Being a Yorkie born and bred, I’m super excited that we’re going to be in the Museum Gardens this winter.
“We’ll be adorning the gardens with fairy lights, Christmas cheer and the Thor’s warmest of welcomes! We’re forever grateful to York Museums Trust, it’s going to be a very special year and everyone’s invited.”
Kathryn Blacker, chief executive of York Museums Trust, said:“We are pleased to be hosting Thor’s tipi in our gardens this winter as a local and well-established business.
“It’s an exciting time for the York Museums Trust and this is an opportunity to welcome more people in to enjoy the Museum Gardens over winter.”
Thor’s was a hugely popular addition to the York Christmas Market on Parliament Street from 2015 onwards.
Last year it was replaced by a two-storey Swiss-style chalet on Parliament Street, while Thor’s was at the Principal Hotel gardens.
YorkMix revealed that Make It York had decided not to recommission the chalet for 2023.
And they decided against having a bar at all at the heart of the market on Parliament Street, which runs from 16 November to 22 December.
Make It York managing director Sarah Loftus said: “We’re absolutely delighted that Thor’s tipi will be an integral part of Christmas in York this year, bringing their signature festivities and laughter to the city as part of new plans to ensure footfall is spread more evenly across the centre at peak periods.”
Thor’s ‘Grand Alpine Hall’ will also return to the Principal Hotel gardens again, from 10 November to 24 December.
