Joe Coates, of live music promoters Please Please You, said: “We’ve been cultivating a collaborative approach to our work in York and further afield in an effort to make more exciting things happen in the city.
“This is a good example of why we do that. Will be pretty special.”
The event has been described as a “mega team-up” involving Crescent Community Venue, Crash Records, Brudenell Presents and the Minster as well as Please Please You.
Albarn found fame as the lead singer of Britpop sensations Blur. He later achieved more critical and commercial success as the co-founder and primary songwriter of the virtual band Gorillaz.
His performance at York Minster celebrates the release of his new album ‘The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows’.
Albarn described the Minster gig as the first of “a special set of short, intimate piano performances, in partnership with local record stores”.
