An investigation is underway into a failed break-in at a historic venue in York which left blood all over the door.

The grisly discovery at King’s Manor off Exhibition Square was made by a security guard at the building yesterday (Sunday).

As we reported, the entrance was cordoned off and a police crime scene investigation van was parked outside.

The famous building

A forensic officer was seen dusting the door for prints. There was more blood on the floor.

Today, the university and police said they were treating it as criminal damage – which had gone very wrong for the person responsible.

It is believed that the perpetrator had broken windows at King’s Manor, possibly in an attempt to force entry.

They had then cut themselves on the glass, hence the bloody handprints, before fleeing the scene.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Police were contacted at 11.35am on Sunday 3 April by security at Kings Manor in York to report an incident of criminal damage.
