The Sunday Times has just published its Good University Guide 2023.
And it’s excellent news for both our universities, who have climbed the rankings.
The University of York is up two places from last year, to 17th in a table of 132 institutions.
And the Sunday Times guide places York St John University at 79, a climb of four places.
The University of York ranking puts it as the top university in Yorkshire. It has risen eight places to rank ninth in the research quality index, which boosted its position overall.
The guide said: “Overall, 93 per cent of York’s research was rated world-leading or internationally excellent (the top two categories) in the national assessment. Language and linguistics; education; philosophy; and sociology produced some of the university’s best results.”
York St John was ranked 13th= for teaching quality and 25th= for student experience.
The guide said: “Based at an 11-acre campus on Lord Mayor’s Walk near York city centre, students at York St John (YSJ) report consistently positive reviews of their university in the National Student Survey.
“Our analysis of the latest results, published in summer 2022, ranks YSJ 13th in the UK for satisfaction with teaching quality (up 18 places) and joint 25th for the wider experience (up 20 places).”
