‘This is just the start’: York teenage entrepreneur sells trainers to rappers and influencers
A York teenager is taking the world of designer footwear by storm.
Although only 17, Dimitri Georgiou has been running his online trainer business for two years – and now counts leading musicians and influencers among his customers.
Now selling limited edition sneakers around the world, his business was launched from his bedroom when just 15 and a student at Archbishop Holgate’s School.
Today he is running Levendi Fits alongside completing a football scholarship. We caught up with Dimitri to find out all about him and his business.
How did the idea for Levendi Fits come about?
I’ve always been into shoes and fashion since a young age, and I’ve been watching people reselling limited edition sneakers all my life. I thought why not just go for it – since I’m very passionate about this sort of stuff and knew about it. I’m originally Greek and the word ‘Levendi’ means good looking, I just thought it fit well with the name.
Did you imagine the business getting this big?
Yes and no because I knew no one was doing it in York so I thought I had to put my mark on it, but I also didn’t think I’d be meeting the people I’ve met throughout my journey. This is definitely just the start though.
How does it feel running a business at such a young age?
It feels very good as it’s what I’ve always wanted to do but huge credit goes to my parents, friends, and family for all the support I get and when I need help, I know they are always there for me.
Have you had any setbacks?
I’ve learned how to spot scammers because when you sell online you naturally get scammed at the start because you realise you can’t trust people. So I’ve definitely learnt a lot about that. I also know what shoes are fake if anyone asks me to check so I know they are safe.
How does it feel to meet and talk to celebrities?
It feels so surreal because you see these people online and it just doesn’t feel that you’re stood next to them, talking to them. I’m a massive fan of Lil Tjay so when I met him that was probably the best day of my life.
You’re on TikTok now too. Is that important?
Yes definitely. TikTok is the way forward nowadays and with the help of my friends videoing me etc it’s also a fun thing to do and it’s free promotion which you can’t complain about.
What do you love about running your own business?
The fact that I’m doing it on my own and I can rely on myself to make the money because once I receive it, it feels even better as I know I’ve worked for that myself.
My new website will be coming soon, and I have a clothing brand called ‘Levendi’ that I will be collaborating with my partner soon. I’m also doing a podcast with my friends on TikTok soon. I will be updating everyone on my Instagram. Thank you for the support and this is just the start.
