The plan to relocate York’s main Post Office from its purpose-built HQ has taken a step forward.
YorkMix reported last month that the Lendal Post Office was to shut, and all services moved into WH Smith on Coney Street.
Plans submitted to City of York Council show how this will look.
According to the Post Office’s timetable, the Lendal branch will shut next Wednesday (3 April) and it will open in Smith’s the following day.
Voluntary redundancies
Butterfield Signs of Bradford is applying for planning permission to change the shop facia.
They also want to add two hanging signs, one for the Post Office and another for WH Smith.
The application comes as the York Press reports that the 13 members staff at the Lendal Post Office have been offered options, including voluntary reduncancy.
The relocation generated a lot of opposition, including a petition with more than 3,000 signatures.
But the Post Office said it would offer advantages to customers, particularly longer opening hours.
The WH Smith branch will have five serving positions and four self-service kiosks.
