It is the latest property show to hit our screens, where we watch a run-down home on a popular street transformed into something smart and chic.
And this week, Channel 4’s Worst House On The Street visited York.
The show follows brother and sister property developers Scarlette and Stuart Douglas using their creative expertise to help families transform run-down houses into dream homes without blowing the bank.
In the second in the series, broadcast yesterday (Tuesday), they came to York to meet first time buyers Gemma and Scott, who had a big project on their hands.
Gemma, 34-year-old office manager, and 42 year old sales consultant Scott had bought a house on Poppleton Road which hadn’t been touched in decades.
The three bed mid terrace house cost the couple £195,000. And they had a budget of £20,000 to spend on renovations.
That looked to be a stretch, considering the carpets were grimy, the kitchen dated and with fungus growing on the wall, and a very old fashioned ground floor bathroom.

Scarlette and Stuart had loads of big ideas – including demolishing the garage to create a bigger outdoor space, and turning one of the bedrooms into a big family bathroom.
But how will Gemma and Scott react to their ideas? Can they keep in budget? And will their redevelopment take the value of the house up to £320,000 – the top price for a home like that on Poppleton Road?
