Video & pix: Two arrested after break-in and theft at York supermarkets
They forced their way into the Sainsbury’s Local on the corner of Bootham and Bootham Row after the shop had shut at midnight.
The thieves also tried to break in to the Sainsbury’s Local on Fulford Road, near the police station.
Police were called out at about 3.10am.
Two men have since been arrested on suspicion of burglary. The men, from Coventry and aged 32 and 34, were detained after officers stopped their car on Shipton Road.

Detectives are studying in-store CCTV footage from the time of the break-in.
The store was closed on Monday morning as staff cleaned up. It was due to reopen by lunchtime.
