Thieves smashed the window and stole money from one of York’s most unusual shops.
Pandora’s Box on Colliergate, which sells antiques and oddities, was burgled at about 5am today (Wednesday, July 18).
It is run by Heather and Greg Bowser. Heather revealed on Facebook that the ‘scumbags’ had stolen the till drawer and a donations box for the new museum at the shop. She said:
I was up with the dog so watched it happen basically.
I was screaming, Greg ran after him. (Dude is lucky he didn’t get him.) But there’s so much glass dust. It will be OK. Just worry it will happen again.
Found a bag and bike nearby

York police went straight to the shop when they got the call at 5am, and returned later in the morning. A scenes of crime officer dusted the broken window for fingerprints.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said:
Police were called with a report of a burglary at a shop on Colliergate, York, at about 5am today.
A window had been smashed and a till drawer taken. Officers attended immediately, and located some discarded items, including a bag and a bike, nearby.
The investigation is continuing, including forensic enquiries at the premises today.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting reference number NYP-18072018-0062.
An amazing shop
Greg is a Yorkshireman, and Heather is from Connecticut in the United States. They first met on an internet chatroom in the Nineties, later getting married and setting up the first Pandora’s Box in Massachusetts.
They relocated to York in 2015 and established our version of Pandora’s Box, which is a big hit with locals and visitors alike.
As well as the shop, there is a new museum of curiosities, and you can take taxidermy classes there too.
