This is surely every chocolate lover’s dream.
Monk Bar Chocolatiers, Shambles, are known for making luxury handmade chocolates – but did you know they also serve up a chocolate shot?
The indulgent treat is warm melted milk chocolate in an edible chocolate cup, in either milk, dark or white chocolate.
And it tastes as good as it sounds – at £3 per shot it’s worth every penny!
Monk Bar Chocolatiers was first established in 1999 by Ray and Liz Cardy. The first shop was opened in the shadow of Monk Bar, before a second shop was opened at 7 Shambles in 2002 – which coincided with Ray and Liz’s son, Alan joining the business.
Once the Monk Bar shop closed a few years later, all operations were moved to the Shambles shop. Then in October 2020, Alan’s wife Karen joined the family chocolate legacy.
YorkMix spoke to Karen, manager at Monk Bar Chocolatiers, to find out more about this decadent treat.
“They’re really tasty and very popular,” said Karen. “It’s comforting and a lovely treat.”
Though the chocolatier’s have been serving up the chocolate shot for around 10 years, it’s become more popular recently due to going viral on social media.
“I think social media has circulated it to people that wouldn’t normally come into us,” said Karen. “It’s word of mouth as well – people advise people to come and visit in York and come see us to get a chocolate shot.”
