If you were in the centre of York today, you might have seen a strange structure being installed in St Sampson’s Square.
Six large arches rose from the damp paving slabs over the course of the day.
It was quite a striking sight – but it will become even more eye-catching next week.
As we first revealed in December, the structure is ‘Reunion’ – a dazzling artwork set to bring some light and colour to York during the dark winter evenings.
This installation, by Kumquat Lab, has been brought to the city by the York BID.
These light arches curve towards each other, “signifying contact and connection”. Bright colours will rotate, and people are encouraged to interact with the artwork.
Reunion will be in place from 16 January until 6 February so visitors coming to enjoy the popular Residents Festival weekend (28-29 January) and Ice Trail event (4-5 February) will be able to see it.
