York Theatre Royal have revealed an exciting line-up of shows for early 2025.
It’s already looking like it’s going to be a great year for theatre in York in 2025 – as York Theatre Royal have announced their forthcoming shows for the new year.
The line-up includes a comedic retelling of a Hitchcock classic, a show inspired by the life of Nina Simone, and songs influenced by Shakespeare.
There’s still excitement to come in 2024 though!
Children’s TV presenter Andy Day, who starred in the York Theatre Royal pantomime Cinderella in 2021 returns to the main house with a special one-off book launch on Friday 1 November.
Andy and bestselling illustrator Steven Lenton will present a fun-filled show to celebrate their new Dino Dad series and the second exciting instalment Dino Dad: Ice Age, published by Puffin Books. With music, quizzes and a live draw-along, the Dino Dad show is a must for any dino-lover.
Director Emma Rice is set to take on film legend Alfred Hitchcock in a comedic reworking of North by Northwest that will turn the original Cold War conspiracy thriller on its head (18 March – 5 April 2025).
Previous Emma Rice shows at York Theatre Royal include Malory Towers, Wuthering Heights and most recently Bluebeard.
Apphia Campbell’s acclaimed play Black is the Color of my Voice (26 February 2025), inspired by the life of Nina Simone, features many of her most iconic songs performed live and follows a successful singer and civil rights activist as she seeks redemption after the untimely death of her father.
English Touring Opera returns to York Theatre Royal in 2025 with new production Shakespeare Songs* (*Working title) (28 February to 1 March), that mixes puppetry and performance in a collection of songs inspired by Shakespeare.
