Cyclists will be stripping off this weekend – as the York Naked Bike Ride returns for its 17th year.
The ride will take place on Saturday 21 June at 4:15pm, starting and finishing at Millennium Bridge.
The naked bike ride aims to be a protest about the continuing danger that cyclists face on increasingly busier roads and the reliance on fossil fuel-based transport options.
“However we celebrate cycling and the varied bodies which power our machines,” said event organiser John Cossham. “We ride naked to demonstrate our vulnerability.”
However, this year there’s a twist! This year, organisers are encouraging non-naked cyclists to join in with the protest ride.
“The ride always has participants in fancy dress and ordinary clothing, and as a cycling event, we’d like to welcome ALL cyclists to ride around the city slowly and safely in a friendly group.”
The route will journey through leafy cycle paths, a nature reserve, and iconic historic attractions like York Minster and Clifford’s Tower. It is around seven miles long and should take under two hours.
Riders will be invited to a clothing optional after-party venue.
