The first summer Arts Barge gig has just been announced… and it’s a welcome return for the brilliant Arkansas singer-songwriter Jude Brothers.
The newly-insulated Selby Tony barge will be mooring once again in York for a summer-long series of events.
Jude was a huge success at a barge fundraiser last year – and this time round the freak-folk icon is topping the bill at the floating venue on Friday 19 May.
Jude’s distinctive style, alternating between guitar, banjo and harp accompaniment, has been favourably compared to artists of the stature of Gillian Welch, Joanna Newsom and Karen Dalton.
Switching from sweet, haunting melodies, to raw, aching ballads, Jude’s mesmerising work is among the finest of the alt-country and folk music coming from Ozarks.
Support comes from York favourites, We Are Hannah, and Rowan.
Multi-instrumentalist Hull singer, Sally Currie, known as The Dyr Sister completes the line-up.
Space is limited and this show will sell out swiftly – tickets cost £8 and are available here.
