York’s first ever Board Game Convention is taking place this weekend.
But you’re lucky if you got a ticket – as the event completely sold out in less than two hours.
It was announced earlier this year that the inaugural event would be coming to the Spurriergate Centre, York, on Friday 11 to Sunday 13 October 2024.

The convention will feature a diverse array of games, special guests, tournaments, and roleplaying – and is the perfect event for board game enthusiasts of all levels.
Special guest Ivan Brett, known for his appearance on the first TV series of hit The Traitors, will lead exclusive sessions during the event. A game master in his own right, Ivan will be running games of ‘Blood on the Clocktower’, a social deduction game that shares similarities with The Traitors.
If you missed out this year, don’t worry! The York Board Game Convention (YBGC) will return in 2025.
“We’re so thrilled at the overwhelming demand for the event,” event organiser Ryan Willis told YorkMix. “Selling out in under two hours was so exciting considering this is the first time YBGC will happen!
“But seeing how fast people jumped on the tickets confirmed beyond all doubt that we can do this even bigger next year.”
There are already big plans in the works for YBGC next year – with the convention moving to a larger venue and offering a more expansive experience.
