More details

The first festival of its kind in the city, it features talks, workshops, walks and performances which explore dying, death and bereavement.

Dr Ruth Penfold-Mounce from the University of York will give a talk on the secrets of a successful posthumous celebrity career.

She said: “This event challenges the idea that death is taboo – death is everywhere and all the time and it’s vital we get talking about it.”

Coordinated by St Leonard’s Hospice to mark Dying Matters Awareness Week, the festival aims to encourage people to be more open about death and offers advice and support for planning ahead and bereavement.
