The Michelin-starred chef behind the Star Inn The City restaurant has revealed plans for his second eatery in York.
Andrew Pern, who won his star at his original Star Inn at Harome, will soon open Mr P’s Curious Tavern.
It will be in the premises of the former Georgina’s Café at 71 Low Petergate.
The announcement was made on the Star Inn The City’s Facebook page:
Due to open to the before the end of the month, we give you Mr P’s Curious Tavern!
Food from around the world
In a video posted to Mr P’s Facebook page Andrew explains the concept behind Mr P’s.
“What we’re trying to do in this establishment is offer smaller plates from further afield, from around the world,” he said.
“We’ve always been known for Yorkshire food, Yorkshire produce. So this time we’re pushing the parameters slightly more.
“We’re giving people a lot more choice. So they can pop in and have two or three different dishes – more if they wish; have different glasses of wine, of different liqueurs maybe, fine ales, as well as ones from Europe and further afield.”
The idea is to offer “something for everybody. We’re breaking down all the barriers that we’ve ever stood for before – flying the Yorkshire flag.
“It’ll be a great place. I’d just encourage everyone to come and feed their curiosity.”
Star chef
Andrew, who is originally from Whitby, trained at Scarborough catering college in classical French cuisine, and later spent time in France learning more of his trade.
He first won his Michelin star for his menu at the Star Inn, Harome, in 2001.
In October 2013 he opened the Star Inn The City in an 18th century pump room in Museum Gardens. It is now jointly owned with Mike Green, who also runs York-based GEM Construction, a company specialising in giving old buildings a future.
It won rave reviews, including one from the Guardian.
