What’s opening in York in 2025?

With the year coming to an end, there are plenty of things to look forward to in 2025 – including lots of exciting new openings in York.

Here’s our guide to ten new attractions, restaurants, hotels and shops opening in York next year.

This brand new attraction on Merchantgate is opening on Friday 10 January 2025 and is set to be an ‘immersive’ world of optical illusions and interactive exhibits.

It promises more than 20 spellbinding illusions – visitors will be able to walk into a sideways living room, disappear into an incognito chamber, and discover a a kitchen parlour where heads appear severed on platters.

The grand opening will feature a special opening offer, with tickets starting at £8.99. To find out more and to book your tickets, visit the The Puzzling World of Professor Kettlestring website.

An extensive year-round book festival programme will also run from the York store, with a variety of author events to be enjoyed.

A specific opening date is yet to be confirmed, but Toppings York will open on Museum Street in autumn 2025. Find out more here.

It aims to transform the previous YO! Sushi restaurant into an ‘authentic Italian dining space’, and will serve up freshly-made pasta, bread, sauces and desserts.

Pig and Potato

After the popular 1331 on Grape Lane closed earlier this year, the downstairs was transformed into a new location for Fish&Forest restaurant. And the first floor has gone through a transformation of its own, reopening as the Pig & Potato.

Though the bar is already open for visitors to enjoy, dining at the Pig & Potato will start from February 2025 – where visitors can enjoy the ‘happiest spot for sausage and mash in York’.

Let’s be real, you can’t go wrong with a good plate of sausage and mash. Keep up to date at their website here.
