Police have made arrests after a stop-and-search operation in two areas of York.
Officers on foot, riding bikes and in patrol cars, both in uniform and under cover, took part in a crackdown on ‘county lines’ drug crime in Clifton and the Haxby Road area last week.
“It didn’t take long to see results. In just three hours, our teams had conducted eight stop searches, arrested two people and issued a cannabis warning,” said a North Yorkshire Police spokesperson.
“An 18-year-old man was stop checked and several wraps of what is suspected to be Class A drugs were found on him.
“Further searching found a bag of what is suspected to be a Class B drug. He was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug and possessing a Class B drug.”
The man has been interviewed and released on conditional bail.
Police also arrested a 30-year-old wanted man on suspicion of theft. He too was interviewed, charged and released on conditional bail.
The spokesperson said: “This is all part of our commitment to tackle street dealing and county lines in the local area.
“And it won’t stop there – we will continue to proactively organise operations right across North Yorkshire and York. In fact, we might just be working on one where you live soon!”
