The Millie Wright Children’s Charity are holding their third annual Fun Run – and this year are joined by an Olympic Gymnast and Commonwealth Champion.
The charity was established in 2022 by Ceri and Nigel Wright, in memory of their daughter Millie, and aims to address the inequalities in hands-on charitable support for families of children with life threatening conditions.
Run For Millie will take place on Saturday 18 May in Poppleton, York.

Co-founder of The Millie Wright Children’s Charity, Nigel Wright said: “We’d love everyone to join our ‘Run For Millie’ to help us celebrate what would have been Millie’s 16th Birthday and to raise important funds for our #feedtheparents initiative.
“Ever since the charity launched, we have been campaigning for parents to be fed in hospital when caring for their seriously ill child. We know from our own experience while looking after Millie, just how important this is.
“The money raised by this event will be used to provide food for parents and carers looking after seriously ill children.”
The fun run will start at 10am from the Green in Upper Poppleton, York. Runners must pre-register to take part and ticket prices are £12 each for 5k (£40 for 2 adults and 2 children), or £20 each for 10k (18 and over only). Pre-register at this link here.
Once again, the event is supported by YorkMix Radio and sponsored by Harrowells Solicitors -and this year will feature Olympic Gymnast and Commonwealth Champion Nile Wilson! Nile is a patron of the charity.
“I am honoured to be patron of The Millie Wright Children’s Charity and am excited to join the ‘Run For Millie’ on Saturday 18 May,” said Nile.
“The event is for everyone and anyone – you can run, jog, walk – just as long as you have fun. And talking of fun, we’d love everyone to come in fancy dress, so lace up your trainers and come join in the celebrations and fundraising.”
The Millie Wright Children’s Charity is based at Leeds Children’s Hospital and recognised by Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust, and provides practical emotional, mental health and wellbeing support for children and their families throughout their stay in hospital.
As well as their #feedtheparents initiative, the charity also supports the activities of the hospital play team, bringing much needed normality to the lives of these, often long-stay, patients.
