Issued by City of York Council
Energise has become the first swimming pool in North Yorkshire to introduce new Swimfit sessions. Swimmers at City of York Council’s leisure centre on Cornlands Road, will be some of the first in the UK to try the new sessions, developed by experts at the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA).
Councillor Sonja Crisp, City of York Council’s Cabinet member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: “After witnessing the world’s greatest sporting event last year, swimmers in York can now participate in a world leading workout programme at Energise.
“Inspired by the structure of a gym programme, Swimfit is a fun and effective way to get fit and tone up by following motivating sessions delivered by qualified instructors on poolside.
“If you have been inspired to follow in the footsteps of Tom Daley and Jessica Ennis, you can achieve your health and fitness goals by coming along to these new and innovative sessions.”
The sessions will start on Tuesday 30 April and will take place each week on Tuesdays from 9pm to 10pm and Wednesdays from 12noon to 1.30pm. They will be open to everyone and are the same price as an adult swim (£3.75 with a YorkCard, £4.65 without). Swimfit sessions will be free to Energise’s Be Active gym members.
Throughout the sessions fully qualified Swimfit swimming instructors are available to welcome swimmers, assess personal goals and help motivate participants to achieve them. They will assist swimmers in selecting the best programme for them, and offer tips and advice on strokes, techniques and generally making the most of the swimming session.
Floats and pool buoys will be available to help those taking part to help strengthen leg and arm musles as part of their workout. Swimmers can visit www.swimfit.com to log their swim, track their progress and see calories burnt.
Swimmers who would like to take part must be able to swim 10 lengths. Places are limited and therefore should be booked in advance at Energise, either in person or by calling reception on 01904 552424.
