An area around the City of York Council offices was cordoned off today (Thursday) – after a swarm of bees descended on the area.
Several people were stung – some more than once – by the insects.
An area was cordoned off on the pedestrian walkway that joins Station Rise to Toft Green.
No one was allowed in the York council offices while the problem was dealt with.
Because the main entrance to the Grand Hotel is slightly further away from the swarm it remained open throughout.
There are two beehives on the roof of the hotel. Staff there contacted their beekeepers to come and help remove the swarm safely.
