Police have arrested a driver in York suspected of stealing fuel from petrol stations across the country.
The man was arrested outside the McDonald’s restaurant next door to the BP filling station on the A59.
Roads policing officer Sgt Paul Cording said the suspect had also tested positive for drugs.
On his Twitter feed, Sgt Cording said: “McNicked! Driver of the Saab arrested on suspicion of a number of make offs from fuel stations across the county.
“Also tested positive for cannabis on a DrugWipeUK so further arrested.”
He said a blood sample will be sent to Diane Fairclough, the regional forensic support officer for Yorkshire and the Humber Regional Scientific Support Services.
“He has been interviewed and charged with making off without payment and enquiries ongoing with other identified offences,” he added.
Sgt Cording praised the teamwork of the team behind the arrest.
